Sandra D. Carmola

Sandra D. Carmola transitioned to production design from architecture after realizing she wanted to tell stories through design. She is a registered architect from Charleston, South Carolina, and has over 10 years of collaborative experience ranging from conceptual design to construction documents, interiors, presentation media and models, custom furniture production and construction. Carmola graduated from Clemson University with a Master of Architecture degree in 2004 and a BS in Design in 2000, including a semester studying in Italy. She has designed six short films and filled various other art department roles on a number of productions.

Ying-Te Julie Chen

Originally from Taiwan, Ying-Te Julie Chen traveled abroad as an international student, beginning her studies at the age of 14. Chen received her Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, where she discovered her passion for production design. Since graduating she has designed commercials, music videos and more than 20 short films. Those projects have won numerous awards, such as the College Television Emmy® Awards, CLIOs, and ADDY Awards. Her films have also screened as the official selections of the Cannes Short Film Corner and the Zero Film Festival.

Sarah E. Cole

Sarah E. Cole holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Central Florida. She worked for two and a half years as a production designer on indie productions in Orlando prior to entering AFI. Cole designed two feature films and numerous short films. She also has art directed several additional short films and a commercial. Since starting her degree at AFI she has developed her technical skills and greatly expanded the number of ways she is able to communicate visually.

Benjamin K. Cox

Benjamin K. Cox studied Film & Television Production at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. There, he developed a strong interest in production design, going on to become an art department coordinator and production designer of many commercials. He has worked under such designers as Jody Asnes, Oscar®-winner Eugenio Caballero, Teresa Carriker-Thayer, Lauri Faggioni, Jeremy Hindle, Marla Weinhoff and Ford Wheeler. He holds a Scenic Design and Art Department Coordination classification with IATSE-USA829.

Kedra Dawkins

Kedra Dawkins is a scenic and production designer with a BA in Technical Theatre and Design from Cal Poly Pomona. She has art directed and production designed a dozen shorts and three feature films. With skills in costume and fashion design, she has also worked wardrobe on music videos and styled editorial fashion photo shoots and runway shows. Dawkins also has experience in network television on Wayne Brady’s LET’S MAKE A DEAL and in the locations department on Ray Romano’s MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE.

Yihong Ding

Yihong Ding is from Shanghai, China. She finished her undergraduate degree in Set Design for Stage and Screen at the University of Arts, London. She is currently an AFI Production Design Second Year Fellow and is looking forward to contributing her talent and creativity to the film industry in the future.

Susannah Honey

Susannah Honey graduated from the University of Western Australia with a BA in History and German. Her first foray into design involved designing, building and running a small bar in the ski resort of Gulmarg, Kashmir in the summer of 2010. She has five years’ experience in floristry and event design, and has very much enjoyed adding to this skill set while at AFI.

Emma Anabel Koh

Emma Anabel Koh was born and raised in Southern California and is currently finishing her last semester at AFI. Shortly after graduating from Cornell University in 2011 with a concentration in Photography and Sculpture, she worked on a feature as an Art Production Assistant. There, she discovered her passion for filmmaking, which inspired her to pursue a career in production design. She recently finished designing her first feature, PRISM, with her thesis team members, Director Calvin Robertson and Cinematographer Farhad Dehlvi, which will be released this coming summer. For her talents, Koh was awarded the Women In Film Tichi Wilkerson Kassel Endowed Scholarship in support of her future endeavors.

Juli Kunke

Juli Kunke was born and raised in Camarillo, CA, a small community just outside of Los Angeles. Since the age of five, she has been heavily involved in theater (mainly acting), and received her BA in Theatre Arts from California Lutheran University. It was in college that Kunke discovered her passion for set design and ended up designing two CLU productions before graduating in 2011. Since starting at AFI in 2012, she has designed several short films, a music video and a web series.

Allison Lopes

Allison Lopes is from Newport, Rhode Island, and previously studied architecture at the University of Notre Dame. Her architecture background has certainly helped with many art department skills and tasks. Despite being relatively new to the film industry, she has had the opportunity to work on many short films, music videos and web series over the past two years. She most recently interned in the art department of COOTIES – expected to be released October 2014 by Lionsgate.

Erik Robert

Erik Robert graduated from Saint Mary's College of California with a BA in Communications and a minor in Art Practice. Robert pursued a professional soccer career in Europe as well as the United States where he learned team-building skills and strategy until sidelined by injuries. After soccer, he returned to his other passion of art and design and enrolled in the Interior Design Certificate Program through UCLA Extension. His path towards production design began when he met acclaimed production designer Barry Robison. Robert has worked as an Art Production Assistant for Barry Robison’s Art Department on NOT SAFE FOR WORK (2014) directed by Joe Johnston and the Disney film MILLION DOLLAR ARM (2014) directed by Craig Gillespie.

Anelisa Torruella

Anelisa Torruella is a recent graduate of Miami International University of Art and Design, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film and Digital Production. She won Third Place for Best Film with her short musical ROXIE at the 2010 Student Film Festival at the university. Torruella has interned in the art department and production department of the production house Venevision, which produces and records Hispanic soap operas and talk shows like CASOS DE FAMILIA and QUIEN TIENE LA RAZON. She worked as a video production specialist at Atlas Air, where she was in charge of the production and art direction of commercials and training videos for the airline. She was also in charge of the cinematography and visual effects of Bubbles Bodywear's online product videos.

Haisu Wang

Haisu Wang graduated from Beihang University in China with a BS in Industrial Design. He was enrolled in a half-year program in Visual Effects at the Institute of Digital Design. He then worked as a visual effects artist at Base FX. Within a year, Wang participated in many projects such as BOARDWALK EMPIRE, I AM NUMBER 4, THE PACIFIC and SUPER 8. The Base FX team for THE PACIFIC received the 62nd Primetime Emmy® Award for Best Visual Effects. He most recently worked as an assistant art director on the upcoming film, THE 33, building an extensive presentation-quality 3D model.

Aleksandra Zgorska

Aleksandra Zgorska is originally from London, England. Since the age of three she has been fascinated by theater and how it made her feel watching shows such as “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats.” This naturally progressed to finding the same enjoyment in films and, from then on, she knew they were going to be her life. After finishing her BA in Classical Studies at Royal Holloway, University of London, she decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film.
