Clarissa Brillembourg

Born in Caracas Venezuela, Clarissa Brillembourg has been involved in productions since high school. She graduated from FIU with a BFA in Theater Design and then worked for 18 months at The Playground Theater (now MTC) in Miami Shores, Florida. There she worked as the assistant designer and later as a stagehand for an original production before moving on to a teaching position at the theater’s children's summer camp. Her acceptance to AFI followed.

Elena Cozlovschi

Elena Cozlovschi graduated from The National University of Theater and Film in Bucharest, Romania, with a degree in Stage Design. She designed numerous plays and received several awards at theater festivals. She has also worked continuously in film and television for the past eight years. Cozlovschi designed a few short films and worked as an art director and, occasionally, as a set decorator on more than 700 TV series episodes and three feature films. She moved to Los Angeles to enrich her experience and become a better designer.

Nicholas K. Donovan

Born in the Midwest and raised in the South, Nicholas K. Donovan attended the Savannah College of Art & Design and currently holds a BFA in Interior Design. Donovan has worked for large commercial architecture firms in Atlanta, Georgia, designing a wide range of projects – from high-security office buildings to four- star hotels. In 2009, Donovan relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career, which would combine his love for design and architecture with pop culture and entertainment. In addition to AFI, Donovan has also attended the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, where he studied Digital Set Design.

Wan Chih Ho

Wan Chih “Haley” Ho spent three years as a scenic designer at Spaeth Design, a New York City company specializing in and famous for their animated holiday windows and display design, prior to attending the AFI Conservatory. Her clients included The Home Depot, Macy's, Saks Fifth Ave., Lord and Taylor and others. In her sparse free time, Ho also designs scenery for various production companies in the New York and Los Angeles areas. She was nominated for the 2012 LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Scenic Design. Ho has a BFA in Scenic Design from Syracuse University. She was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, before coming to the U.S. at age 15 with only her suitcase.

Aashrita Kamath

Aashrita Kamath graduated from St. Xavier's College in Mumbai, India, with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. She worked as a production assistant on television commercials before realizing that working in the Art Department was her true calling. She has worked as the set dresser on the British feature film WEST IS WEST and as Prop Master on the Bollywood film, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. Prior to attending AFI, Kamath designed an independent short film SEHER HONE TAK (TILL THE MORNING COMES). She was recently awarded the TOM YODA scholarship in recognition of her work at AFI. Kamath loves creating immersive, believable worlds. Her thesis film DUSTLAND is a fantastical drama set in a 1930s traveling circus.

Jacqueline A. Kay

Jackie Kay has a background in Theatrical Set Design at UCSB, which has helped her transition well into the film world. The types of sets she has built include a 1910 mansion piano room and hallway, western saloon and single wide aquarium. All this building has made her very comfortable with power tools and paint brushes and problem solving at the drop of a hat. Her current thesis film requires building a village for the Jonestown Massacre. During her years at AFI, Kay has gotten a firm grasp on hand and computer drafting as well at 3D modeling. She worked professionally as a set decorator and assistant designer on a number of theater and film jobs.

Yong Ok Lee

Originally from South Korea, Yong Ok Lee has worked as an art director on several features and production designer on two independent films. Her strength is in her sense of beauty and color. She is talented and hard working – with a reputation as a workaholic. Lee is primarily interested in concept design and set decoration across a wide range of film genres. She is looking forward to working in diverse visual media, including films, television and music videos.

Sarah Murat

Sarah Murat is from Seattle. She can turn your living room into a Mexican barbershop, your dining room into an abandoned travel agency and fill your garage with perfectly costumed bear hunters from the late 1800s. Murat has an incredible eye for detail and specificity, which she always brings to her work.

Matthew W. Novak

Matthew W. Novak is pleased to be able to combine his passion for film and art through the AFI Design Program. He graduated from the University of Miami in 2010 with a double major in Film Production and Studio Art. Novak spent last summer in NYC working as an art department assistant on the independent feature film INNOCENCE. Upon graduation, he plans to move back to the tri-state area.

Shamim Seifzadeh

Shamim Seifzadeh, of Iranian descent, moved to the United States in 2002. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from UIUC in 2007. After graduation, Seifzadeh became a project manager for the U.S. Navy while designing for short films and music videos. In 2010, she designed a short film TRUE SKIN, which was recently picked up by Warner Bros. and is in feature development. In the summer of 2012, she designed the short film SILK for Catherine Dent, which has been accepted at several film festivals.

Lauren Adele Spalding

Lauren Adele Spalding has dreamed of being a production designer since she was 15. Guided by a strong passion for storytelling, she studied history and philosophy at the University of King's College and graduated with a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. In Canada, Spalding worked on the independent feature GRAVITY AND GRACE and designed several short films before making the move to study at the AFI Conservatory. She spent her first LA summer as the on-set dresser of LOVESICK and is excited to put to use the skills she has learned from the past two years at AFI.

Kate Weddle

Kate Weddle loves design of all kinds. She earned a BA in 3D Animation and Digital Art Direction from the University of Central Florida and is excited to employ the many design skills she has learned here at the AFI Conservatory in her future endeavors. During her time as a Fellow at the AFI Conservatory, Weddle has sharpened her skills in drafting, model building and illustration. She prides herself on her 3D skills, concept design and thorough research. Weddle has worked as a professional graphic designer and art director for the past 12 years, designing mostly in print and Web.
