AFM Partnership

Since the formation of their strategic partnership in 2004, the American Film Market (AFM) and AFI FEST presented by Audi have grown to become, together, the largest gathering of film professionals in North America. Organizers predict this year's AFM turnout will easily top the 2007 attendance of more than 8,000 individuals from more than 70 countries representing all facets of the motion picture community. The shared events have experienced steady growth each year, and organizers are anticipating a 5 percent increase for the 2008 Market.

In 2007, AFI FEST hosted over 300 filmmakers from 37 countries, 500 international press representatives, and a record-breaking nearly 80,000 consumer attendees seeing films at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood and enjoying our hospitality in the Festival's Rooftop Village.

Producers and distributors from around the world have successfully integrated the Festival and Market. A major benefit of the partnership for AFM is the opportunity for a selection of AFM films to be programmed in the Festival, creating additional exposure and marketing platforms. AFI FEST filmmakers are building the Market into their strategies as well. Many have sales representation at AFM, while some are orienting themselves to the market for the first time.

Of the 69 narrative feature films and 28 feature documentaries that played at AFI FEST 2007, 37 films were represented in both the film festival and the film market.

Eleven films sold or announced distribution deals during the festival with many other announcements in the weeks following the festival. In 2007, films securing territories, including US distribution in some cases included: IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS, CARAMEL, THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS, LUCKY MILES, NOISE, JELLYFISH, and THE BAND'S VISIT.

This association builds a bridge between cinema's artistic aspirations, as recognized by AFI FEST, and its commercial potential in the marketplace, broadening the possibilities for all participants. While the AFM and AFI FEST continue to be individually managed, their partnership adds value to both events for the vast domestic and international constituencies in attendance.

AFM provides Market badges to all AFI FEST filmmakers allowing them access to the entire Market, including AFM's lineup of conferences and seminars, where they can meet and learn from prominent filmmakers, financiers, film executives and talent.

All AFM exhibiting companies are eligible to receive a complimentary AFI FEST ProPass. For more information on obtaining your ProPass, please contact Maggie Mackay, Industry Services Manager.

AFI FEST has created a Priority List program to provide the maximum number of benefits at AFI FEST to AFM exhibitors who desire to make the most of the AFI FEST/AFM partnership. Priority List members receive badges, gala tickets, entry into AFI FEST parties and free luxury transportation.
