AFIFEST 2007 November 1-11

WELCOME FILMMAKERS

AFI FEST 2007 submission window is closed.

Final deadline was July 16, 2007.

We will begin accepting submissions for AFI FEST 2008 in February.

If you have any questions please email programming@afi.com

Q. When will I know if I am accepted to AFI FEST?
A. All Filmmakers will be notified by October 6, 2007

Q. Is there any way to get an early answer if I'm considering a couple of different festivals? How important is premiere status?
A. Premiere status is taken into account for all sections, and films that have not yet screened in the US are given priority.

  • In order to be eligible for the International Feature Competition, the submission must be made by a first or second time filmmaker and must be at least a US premiere.
  • Feature Films (both Narrative and Documentary) that have previously screened for the public in Los Angeles or have been televised in the Los Angeles area are not eligible for consideration.
  • Short Films that have previously screened for the public in Los Angeles are severely handicapped for selection. As noted, premiere status is taken into account for all sections and, at the very least, a Los Angeles premiere is very important for Short Film selection.

Plan your festival strategy carefully. If you are considering offers from other festivals please contact us and let us know and we will try our best to give you an early answer.

Q. Can you waive the submission fee for me?
A. We're sorry, but we're unable to waive the entry fee for submission. We understand the limited budgets that most filmmakers who contact us face, but as a nonprofit arts organization our festival is only possible through our sponsors, ticket sales and entry fees. In addition, we receive thousands of requests to waive the fee and in order to be fair to all entrants, it is our policy never to waive the fee. We hope that you'll still be able to enter for AFI FEST 2007, November1-November 11.

Q. Can I submit a work in progress?
A. Yes, we frequently screen works in progress and are able to judge your film based on the merits of the story and subject. Bare in mind, you will be in competition against complete cuts, so provide us with the most finished product you have at our submission deadline.

Q. I seem to have applied to your festival twice and I haven't mailed out the film copy. I also paid twice. Will I be disqualified?
A. You will NOT be disqualified. It happens all the time. We will contact you and process the refund for the second entry.

Q. Who should I contact to give updates regarding the status of my film or changing information?
A. Send us an e-mail at Programming@AFI.com and we will make sure to update your film entry in our database and share it with the programming team.
