THE NAKED TRUTH

By MONIQUE PARENT

Oftentimes when actors are seen nude on film, they are not actually nude. The "naughty bits" are discreetly covered by something called "the patch" for women and "the sock" for men. What follows is a sock story:

The very first day on an independent film I did, the schedule got completely changed due to rain, so we had to do interior scenes that were originally scheduled for later that week. One of these new scenes was a love scene with me and the actor playing the hero of the movie, Dan Anderson. The wardrobe gal only had the clothing items we thought we needed - so no "Sock." Therefore, in a hurried "make-do" Dan used an actual sock - a black dress sock, to be more specific. Dan was a great sport and we kept making a lot of jokes about his "sock." It kept unrolling and hanging halfway down his leg - you can just imagine the jokes. Later in the day, another actor had been called into work unexpectedly because of the scheduling changes. He was wearing a business suit in his scene and only had white sport socks to wear. He was really bummed because if he had to sit down in the scene, those white sport socks were going to look really dorky.

I couldn't help myself. Really. "Dan has black socks," I said oh, so innocently. Dan gave me one of those you'vegot- to-be-kidding looks, and hemmed and hawed when the other actor asked to borrow them. But this actor kept begging and pleading for those black socks so Dan eventually lent them to him. We all had to bite our tongues to keep from laughing as the other actor said "Hey, thanks, Dude" and put them on.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize (sort of) to this other actor. I'm sorry. I just couldn't help myself...
