What's going on at AFI FEST

THE AUDI PAVILION SALONS

Launching this year at AFI FEST are the Audi Pavilion Salons - informal interviews and audience Q&As with the Festival's filmmakers and moderated by noted journalists. Held in the comfortable, yet stylish Audi Pavilion at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 3, 4 and 10, these are intimate give-and-takes about the artistic pursuit of filmmaking - be it style in production design, cinematography or the written page.

Saturday, November 3, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
The Independent Style: A discussion about how innovative production and costume design impact filmmaking today.

THE LIVING WAKE costume designer, Negar Ali, details the design process and choices for plain blazers and vests in this U.S. feature film about small-town characters in a cheeky comedy about self-proclaimed artist and genius K. Roth, played by Mike O'Connell, who also wrote the screenplay.

Sunday, November 4, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
The Terror Dream: Fear and Fantasy in Post-9/11 America

EXPIRED screenwriter and director, Cecilia Miniucchi along with short film BITCH screenwriter and director, Lilah Vandenburgh, converse with Film Week's Jean Oppenheimer on how the theories put forth in Susan Faludi's book applies (or not) to films being made today.

Cinematography in the Digital Age: Beyond the economics of shooting digital versus film, what are the artistic challenges and accomplishments for men and women behind the digital camera?

Academy Award, winner Vilmos Zsigmond along with short horror film PYSCHO HILLBILLY CABIN MASSACRE! director of photography and AFI alum Rob Toth. The discussion, moderated by REELZ Channel's Mike Richards, explores the artistic challenges and accomplishments for men and women behind the digital camera. Zsigmond is the cinematographer for such films as TORN FROM THE FLAG and The Black Dahlia.

Is it too critical or bad critical? The state of film criticism and the influence of today's heckler on film, comedy and art. This panel is with HECKLER Director Michael Addis and MR WARMTH, THE DON RICKLES PROJECT Producer Bob Engleman. Stand-up comic guests from HECKLER will be in attendance, including Greg Fitzsimmons.
