Music Café in Moviefone Cinema Lounge

AFI FEST Daily News
Picture a dimension, not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A place where film meets music through a door unlocked by the key of imagination.
There's a signpost up ahead. Next stop: the Music Café in the Moviefone Cinema Lounge at AFI FEST 2006 presented by Audi.
With musical performances scheduled before and after evening screenings, the Music Café on the AFI FEST Rooftop Village features eclectic performances from across the musical spectrum: hip-hop DJs, solo singer-songwriters and major bands.
Music Café performances take place daily on the AFI FEST Rooftop Village through November 11, starting at 8:00 PM.
AFI FEST passholders can stop by, take in the sights and sounds, and get in touch with fellow film-lovers. Festival passes (AllPass, FestPass, ProPass and DayPass) provide access, as does a special Moviefone Cinema Lounge Pass. Buy passes at the Box Office in the AFI FEST Rooftop Village.
On the Music Café roster are three emerging artists. DJ Kazue, fermina d., and Molly Jenson are all taking their first journey to AFI FEST. And each has a specific atmosphere to create and share through music.
DJ Kazue lists J.S. Bach as her foremost musical influence. She looks to radiate a down-to-earth vibe where people can be themselves and feel comfortable on or off the dance floor.
She spins what she calls Òbassmosphere,Ó an evening where people unconsciously slide into a feeling and reality of comfortableness.
DJ Kazue is a club DJ. Her hip-hop creations effortlessly meld beats and melodies, adding to the coolness factor, like a contemporary film soundtrack.
Listeners of fermina d. will go on a global voyage, as she creates a specific, indefinable sound, equal parts chill and feel-good, sometimes sentimental. Her musical influences range from Gabor Szabo to Cesario Evora to Plastilina Mosh.
Travel with fermina d. to have a real sense of haven taken a trip around the world, both geographically and emotionally.
Her music is mellow but catchy, the sort of music that sets the stage for warm conversation over a glass of wine. It works well with any kind of sophisticated movie, perhaps one with an international flavor.
Molly Jenson likes people to feel relaxed and free, letting her songs meet them wherever they happen to be. Her biggest musical influence is her co-writer and producer Greg Laswell.
She also draws inspiration from The Cardigans and Rufus Wainwright. MollyÕs music is a mix of mellow and happy, melancholy and upbeat, deep reds and blues with a splash of bright sunny yellow thrown in for fun.
Molly is title-song ready: her composition Maybe Tomorrow is exactly the sort of tune that would be perfect for a youth-oriented film or TV show.
