DAY FIVE November 7, 2005
AFI FEST Daily Wrap
compliled by Brent Simon
AFI FEST 2005 wrapped up its first full weekend with a host of rollicking parties and special screenings Sunday, November 6... Roger Spottiswoode's RIPLEY
UNDER GROUND enjoyed its World Premiere at the Festival, screening to an appreciative audience... In attendance were Spottiswoode and costars Claire Forlani and Alan Cumming... ImaginAsian held their party in The Loft, where co-chairs Charles Hendrickson and Augustene Hong greeted guests, including comedian Dat Phan and former Miss Universe Brook Lee... At least one Festival attendee, perhaps
inspired by AFI FEST's Aquafina
Pure Vision Outdoor Screenings:
Music Docs at Midnight series, wondered aloud why there wasn't a rooftop drive-in cinema in Los Angeles, a city with a deep and abiding love for its cars... Writer/director Duncan Tucker's TRANSAMERICA
enjoyed a welcome reception,
and star Felicity Huffman's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES costars and husband, William H. Macy, all attended to show their support...
After the screening--during a Q&A with Tucker, Huffman and fellow actors Kevin Zegers and Fionnula Flanagan--a transsexual in the audience congratulated the filmmakers on crafting so responsible
and true a narrative... Huffman also talked about her voice training for the film, while Flanagan joked that Tucker trimmed her nude scene... The documentary BURNING MAN: BEYOND BLACK ROCK proved so successful in its first weekend
screenings that another screening has been added, for Saturday, November 12, at 10:30 p.m. in ArcLight Theatre 10... Tonight brings the North American
Premiere of Tommy Lee Jones' THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA, which picked up Best Screenplay Honors
at the Cannes Film Festival and screens at 7:30 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre.
