INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
JOE FRANK is an award winning radio monologist and montagist whose work spans more than 20 years. Frank is the author of The Queen of Puerto Rico and Other Stories, short stories based on his radio work. A Guggenheim Fellow, Frank is also the recipient of the prestigious Peabody Award, two Major Armstrong Awards, two Gold Awards from the International Radio Festival in New York and two Corporation for Public Broadcasting Radio Program Awards. At present, Frank is on the airwaves in a new hour-long weekly series, Joe Frank: The Other Side.
GYULA GAZDAG is an accomplished and iconoclastic Hungarian director of theater, film, and television. Among his numerous feature films is A HUNGARIAN FAIRY TALE, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Locaro Film Festival. Gazdag's other documentaries include A POET ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE, HUNGARIAN CHRONICLES, PACKAGE TOUR and THE BANQUET. He currently teaches directing at UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television, and serves
as the Artistic Director of the Sundance Filmmakers Lab.
CHENG-SIM LIM is a Programmer at the UCLA Film and Television Archive and a film/videomaker. She studied fine arts at Smith College and film at UCLA. Malaysian-born, Ms. Lim is currently based in Los Angeles.

NEW DIRECTIONS FROM AMERICAN INDEPENDENTS
NANCY BISHOP is an innovator in the field of mass media and is now widely known as the editor and publisher of Venice magazine, LA's leading arts and entertainment publication for more than 12 years. She has made a name for
herself in the world of film, music, art, and theater in LA as a champion of up-and-coming artists. Her other accomplishments include hosting the weekly television interview show In Review for Showtime, and working with such diverse
talents as John Cassavetes and Jon Voight.
SUSAN GLATZER is an independent producer living in Los Angeles. Most recently she was the Senior Vice President
of Acquisitions and Production for USA films. She also has previously worked at Northern Arts Entertainment, First Run Features, the Independent Feature Film Market, Thirteen/WNET, and was a founding member of the Board of Directors
of the New York Women's Film Festival. Her current projects include EVA & ME, which is being packaged at Lions Gate Films, and developing the book adaptation of BODY & SOUL for Sony Classics.
SCOTT THOMPSON is a horror movie actor famous for his three nipples, who was big in the 60s. Reputed to have
slept with Aleister Crowley and once romantically linked to Britt Ekland, he is the very definition of Hollywood mystique. Originally from Hungary, he now resides in the Valley with an authentic Romanian princess and two special-needs cats.

DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
HARRISON ENGLE is the award-winning director of numerous dramatic and documentary films. For television,
he directed WAR AND PEACE, an hour special airing on TNT. Other directing credits include OBSESSED WITH
VERTIGO, about the making and restoration of Hitchcock's romantic suspense classic and the critically-acclaimed
feature documentary, THE INDOMITABLE TEDDY ROOSEVELT. Engle is past president of the International Documentary Association, founder of the IDA Awards, and a member of the Directors Guild of America.
MARINA GOLDOVSKAYA is one of Russia's best known documentary filmmakers. Her documentary HOUSE ON ARBAT STREET received the Best Film prize at the Prix Europa, the Ester Prize in Washington, DC, and the Grand Prix at Monte Carlo in 1994. THE SHATTERED MIRROR was also honored with the Golden Gate Award in San Francisco and the Golden Hugo in Chicago in 1993. Goldovskaya has been a Professor at the UCLA School of Film and Television in Los Angeles and is a member of the Russian Academy of Television.
DAVID HAUGLAND is an internationally-recognized and award-winning filmmaker whose work includes two Academy-Award-nominated documentary feature films, one of which is the 1993 feature CHANGING OUR MINDS: THE STORY
OF DR. EVELYN HOOKER. Haugland wrote, directed, and produced the recent CBS Special LIFE REMEMBERS starring Anthony Edwards; and hosted a one-hour special for Australian Broadcasting featuring directors Scott Hicks and Michael Apted. He is currently President of the International Documentary Association where he has developed new partnerships
in North America and a member of the Directors Guild of America.
