MONICA

THE PIANO
(Australia/France, 1992 121 min.)

WATCH CLIP

Jane Campion's Oscar winning film is as romantic, moody, and complex as its characters. Ada (Holly Hunter), her nine-year-old daughter (Anna Pacquin) and her piano arrive to an arranged marriage in the remote bush of nineteenth century New Zealand. Of all her belongings, her husband (Sam Neill) refuses to transport the piano, and it is left behind on the beach. Unable to bear its certain destruction, Ada strikes a bargain with an illiterate tattooed neighbor (Harvey Keitel). All are drawn into a complex emotional, sexual bond.
