IN FULL GALLOP
(Poland/France, 1995 104 min.)

In Full Gallop is a moving autobiographical adaptation of Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi's boyhood in the 1950's. As a result of constant surveillance by the Secret Police and the subsequent threat to young Hubert's education, his mother ships Hubert off to Warsaw to live with his eccentric Aunt Idalia, who has a penchant for horses. She teaches Hubert how to "bend the truth," yet confusion arises when Hubert realizes Aunt Idalia has been keeping the truth from him: She disguises herself as a Bolshevik conspirator, yet associates with party officials.
