DAY THREE November 5, 2005

AFI FEST Daily Wrap

compiled by Brent Simon

AFI FEST 2005 ramped up to its first full weekend with a robust slate of evening screenings, parties and other events on November 4, and the air was crisp and the views beautiful from the Rooftop Village on the 7th floor of the ArcLight parking structure... Soccer legend Pele made a rare Southern California appearance in support of a special screening of the documentary PELE FOREVER... Afterward, at a party at the Audi Pavilion, Pele was swarmed by fans and graciously autographed dozens of items... Band/multimedia group Mutator put on a rollicking drum-and-bass show in the courtyard of the Rooftop Village, amidst colorfully costumed revelers, flame-jugglers and several women on stilts, all in advance of last night's World Premiere of BURNING MAN: BEYOND BLACK ROCK, a documentary look at the eponymous music and art festival held in the desert each year... The Young and the Restless ' Eric Braeden hosted the MADE IN GERMANY launch party--sponsored by German Films Service + Marketing--in The Loft at the Rooftop Village... The Cinema Lounge, meanwhile, played host to the Filmmakers' Reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.--in attendance were Andy Garcia (THE LOST CITY), Alexander Ergis (SCREAMING MASTERPIECE), Matias Bize (IN BED), Martin Boulocq (THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OF MY VERY BEST YEARS), Kelly Duda (FACTOR 8), Christopher Jaymes (IN MEMORY OF MY FATHER) and Sabina Vajraca and Ali Hanson (both of BACK TO BOSNIA), amongst many others.
