One of primary goals of this year's festival is to increase support of American independent films and filmmmakers with many exciting special events. AFI Fest has created two such panel discussions.
BREAKING & ENTERING
Cinegrill Lounge, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood

This panel discussion is designed for the driven, or simply curious, individuals venturing forth into the competitive, difficult, and often cutthroat world of professional movie making. Topics covered will include the risks and rewards of a film school degree, the value and purpose of representation, the importance of accessing and generating strong material and the 90's trend in "no budget" movie making. Following the moderated discussion, a Q & A will follow.
Moderator
Billy Frolick, screenwriter & author of WHAT I REALLY WANT TO DO IS DIRECT: Seven Film School Graduates go to Hollywood. He is currently writing BEETLEJUICE 2 for Warner Bros. and planning his directorial debut.
Steven Soderbergh, director, Sex, Lies and Videotape, calls Billy Frolick's book, "Absolutely riveting...a definintive text on what it's like to make a start in the movie business."
Panelists will range from up-and-coming to seasoned filmmakers.

This entertaining and informative panel will discuss the important relationship between music and film. Topics covered will include how music for film is created, licensed and marketed. The panel will consist of well recognized figures from the music and film industries. A Q&A will follow the discussion. The panel will consist of the music and film professionals listed below.
Moderator
Chris Douridas, KCRW's Music Director and Host of "Morning Becomes Eclectic." A&R, DreamWorks Records. He has helped expose many talented new artists through his radio show. He has also served as a music consultant and supervisor on several film projects and has recently joined the A&R team at DreamWorks Records.
Panelists
Harlan Goodman, Senior VP of Music, Paramount Studios. For the past six and a half years he has served as the head of the music department. His recent credits include FORREST GUMP, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, KISS THE GIRLS, IN & OUT and the eagerly anticipated TITANIC. Before working for Paramount, he worked as an independent music supervisor, head of music for Tri-Star and in artist management.
Jonathan McHugh, VP Soundrack Marketing, New Line Cinema. Jonathan works with New Line's soundtrack label partners in helping to coordinate and shape soundtrack albums. Prior to joining New Line, Jonathan was the Director of Film Music for A&M Records, developing albums for SABRINA and THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS.
Stewart Copeland, Composer. Grammy award winner with The Police, Stewart has turned his musical talents to film. His unique musical style ranges from such films as Oliver Stone's WALL STREET to Kevin Reynold's RAPA NUI. His most recent project was the sleeper hit, GOOD BURGER, for Paramount /Nickelodeon.
Randall Poster, Music Supervisor. Living and working in New York City, his credits as a music supervisor include THE CROSSING GUARD, KIDS, I SHOT ANDY WARHOL and SUBURBIA. Upcoming projects include GUMMO and A LIFE LESS ORDINARY. He also produced the soundtrack albums for the films WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE and BOTTLEROCKET.
