MARQUISE U.S. PREMIERE

Set against the backdrop of the court of King Louis XIV at Versailles, this is a magnificent piece of filmmaking - luxuriously romantic and beautiful. A ravishingly beautiful but poverty stricken young dancer marries a famous actor in Molière's drama troupe, and is soon introduced to the King. Now the Marquise du Parc, she is also noticed by Jean Racine, about to write his first play. Now she is torn between the actor and the two writers, Molière, to whom she owes everything but who doubts her talents as an actress, and Racine, who thinks the world of her and considers her the greatest actress of her time. Rich in splendour and pageantry, MARQUISE delights its audience with its full-bodied characters, stunning costumes, and depiction of the French theater of the 17th century and the players of that unique period. "This is a Marquise of comedy, a free-spirited, passionate Marquise, who flies in the face of the ill-humoured and, I hope, brings laughter and tears to those who abandon themselves to her fantasy..."-Véra Belmont
