FIRE IN PARADISE U.S. PREMIERE

On her honeymoon cruise, Juliette realizes that her new husband has married her for her money. Dismayed and angry, she meets a poor bride-to-be on board the ship. This young woman is traveling to India to marry a missionary she has never met. Juliette feels that her salvation lies in taking on the young woman's identity, and sneaks off the steamer. She believes that she will be able to re-invent herself, and find her freedom. Once in India, however, she discovers the harsh reality of life in the lonely outpost, with a man extremely different from any she has met before. In addition, the missionary had hoped to find a pious, severe mate. Instead, his new bride creates havoc at the remote mission. Filmed on location in India, the magnificent imagery paints an accurate portrait of a time when German and Swiss businessmen and clergy founded colonies to spread enlightenment to the darkest corners of the earth. Lonely for their homeland, many sent for mail order brides, who would share the burden of this arduous existence.
