Note: According to MPW the production of this film was arranged by writer Joseph Medill Patterson for the Chicago Daily Tribune . He enabled the paper and Weigle to obtain permission from the Belgian government to photograph actual battle scenes for the first time. The government agreed only on the stipulation that part of the profits be donated to the Red Cross. Contemporary reviews commented on the film's realism and high quality. This was the first of many war films made by Weigle, who was on staff at the Tribune . This film was copyrighted under the title Tribune Belgian War Pictures , and was also called On Belgian Battlefields in the Great European War
