Summary: Becky McCloskey, a salesgirl at Stacy's Department Store, is discharged for insulting customers. She loses her last dollar to a pickpocket but accepts a dinner invitation from "Broadway Dan" Scarlett, who promises to get her a job in a musical revue. Spiegelberg, the stage director, gives her a role in a satirical version of Faust in which she plays "Maggy" and is kicked around the stage, though she aspires to singing. At a theatrical party she meets wealthy and aristocratic young John Estabrook, whose attempts to refine her rough manners cause her to fall in love with him. Meanwhile, Dan, who reveals himself to be a jewel thief, courts Nan Estabrook, but when rejected by her, Dan finds happiness with Becky, who is misjudged by her wealthy suitor.
