Summary: Iris Van Suydam and Richard Wynbrook Prentiss, a wealthy society couple, are engaged. Iris, however, is attracted to her chauffeur, Tom McGuire, who is in love with her; and Richard meets Shamrock O'Day, beautiful daughter of a washerwoman, and falls in love with her. Consequently, they cancel their engagement, and each marries the partner of his choice. Too late, they discover their inability to adjust to another social set: Tom has difficulty in the world of opera, fashionable cabarets, and concerts of Iris; while Shamrock is ill at ease at a formal dinner party and becomes intoxicated. One night, after a party, Tom and Shamrock sneak off to Coney Island where they become stranded on a Ferris wheel; returning home, they find Richard and Iris awaiting them. Tom declares his love for Shamrock, and a fight between Tom and Dick is interrupted by a fire. Following Iris' rescue by Dick, divorces are obtained; Tom marries Shamrock; and Richard, Iris.
