Summary: Fastidious society girl Barbara Fiske, who has made the acquaintance of Dan Morgan, an audacious bully, is invited to his tramp steamer on the day before her marriage to Lloyd Van Courtland. She declines, but the boredom of an evening alone in her luxurious home overwhelms her. Aboard the yacht, Barbara is the victim of a seduction attempt by Dan and is terror-stricken by the hideous figure of the ship's cook, a monstrous, tattooed man. Resenting his steady leer at Barbara, Dan attacks him, and in the ensuing struggle, Barbara shoots the cook, who has killed Dan. Chastened by her experience, Barbara is glad to find peace and happiness in marriage to Van Courtland.
