Summary:
Hertzog, "The Black Crook," makes a pact with the devil, agreeing to produce for Satan one soul each year, or find himself banished to Hell. Meanwhile, Amina, who loves Rudolph, refuses the proposal of the powerful Count Wolfenstein. Angered, Wolfenstein has Rudolph thrown in a dungeon. Searching for a soul, but with only twenty-four hours left to find one, Hertzog focuses all of his attention on Amina and Rudolph, believing them to be weakened from despair and therefore easy prey. Rudolph and Amina manage to thwart both Hertzog and Wolfenstein, though, and the couple is united permanently just as Hertzog himself becomes the devil's prisoner.
