CAST Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer
DIRECTOR Robert Wise
PROCUCER Robert Wise
SCREENWRITER Ernest Lehman

The opening, aerial shot of Julie Andrews singing the title song in the Austrian Alps is one of the most spectacular film openings of all time, setting the stage for both the movie's timeless score and the magnificent locations in and around Salzburg. Based on the true story of the Trapp Family singers, the film was adapted from the Broadway smash musical, the last completed project of collaborators Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. This story of a former nun raising a family of wealthy children and falling in love with their widowed father won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
