MUSIC FROM THE INSIDE OUT (Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra) —PBS — Daniel Anker Production Team: Anker Productions, PushyBroad, Liberate Technologies Roundpeg, Team Audio, Beatnik and Mixed Signals.

This innovative PBS series features the 105 members of The Philadelphia Orchestra in an exploration of the world of music outside the concert hall. The project adopts a fresh approach to music education - rather than teaching music theory or history, it attempts to make the abstract in music more accessible, by exploring the connections between an artist's everyday life and the creative process. The five programs in the series will develop broad ideas about music - i.e., sound, color, and shape - through verite documentary and musical performances.

Anker Productions, working with PushyBroad, Liberate Technologies, and RoundPeg, have created a prototype that showcases cross platform interactivity. New material was conceived, shot and edited especially for the prototype to create a fulfilling linear experience as well as an interactive experience, for both ETV and Broadband online. Enhancements include a "karaoke" feature that allows viewers to literally "play along at home" and a segment where the musicians are joined by a group of students in an enhanced exploration of natural sounds. Viewers are also engaged by the interactive programming layer during a musical performance. They can follow along with the score, isolate a player's performance, learn more about the instruments used in the piece, and get more information about the music itself. TV optimized web pages allow for more exploration of the construction of a new hall for the Orchestra. Finally, the Broadband online experience offers an opportunity for further interaction with musical sounds, colors, and ideas.
