It is with great sadness that we note the passing of producer, actress and director, Nancy Malone, 79, a long-time friend of AFI, lost yesterday in the wake of an epic life. During her long and prolific career, Malone broke many barriers and made some truly memorable contributions to the world of television.
Early in her career, Malone appeared in such TV shows as NAKED CITY and THE TWILIGHT ZONE before moving into television development at 20th Century Fox. Soon after, she transitioned into producing and directing, working on a variety of prominent series such as THE BIONIC WOMAN, DIAGNOSIS MURDER and DYNASTY.
Nancy Malone was a passionate supporter of AFI and an even more ardent advocate for our Directing Workshop for Women (DWW) and its important mission. A DWW graduate herself, Malone spoke at the program's annual showcase earlier this month, telling the audience, "There's no such thing as a 'no.' You have your dream, you do it." Wise words from a woman who worked consistently and passionately to hone her craft.
We were proud to call her a great friend. Malone's devotion to AFI was true, and will continue, for her legacy at DWW lives on.
