Cost of Attendance
Financial aid eligibility is always based on the cost of attendance (COA) for one year at a particular institution. The cost of attendance at the Conservatory includes the standard charges for tuition, fees, thesis tuition (second year Fellows only) and a reasonable estimate for living expenses, transportation and miscellaneous costs associated with attendance. Your cost of attendance will be adjusted each year as your standard charges change and as we adjust the estimates for the other costs associated with attendance.

Based upon a survey completed by Fellows, the AFI Conservatory has determined the following as the cost of attendance for the 2013-2014 nine month academic year:

2013-2014 First Year Fellows

Tuition Deposit: $ 1,000
Regular Tuition: $ 40,152
Educational and Production Materials Fee: $ 2,752
Room & Board allowance: $ 14,175
Supplies Allowance: $ 4,500
Transportation Allowance: $ 2,700
Miscellaneous/Personal Expenses/Loan Fees: $ 6,227
First Year Cost of Attendance: $ 71,506

Second Year Fellows pay thesis credit tuition of $430.25 per thesis credit hour for 20 hours for an additional tuition of $8,605**. Thesis credit tuition is for every discipline and includes additional mentoring and classes relating to: thesis completion — either a thesis project (short film) or a screenplay (for screenwriters); showcases (thesis film, production design, screenwriting and cinematography); and faculty and facilities to support Fellows through their designated graduation date.

The Educational and Production Materials Fee for 2013–2014 is $1,376 per term of the program and is required of all Fellows. For 2014–2015, the Educational and Production Materials Fee is $1,424 per term. The fee is used to contribute towards production costs, computer lab costs and other instruction-related materials.

**The tuition amounts listed above are dependent upon approval by the AFI Board of Trustees.
