FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, LOS ANGELES, CA, November 10, 2016 — The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today the sponsors and cultural partners for AFI FEST 2016 presented by Audi, which takes place November 10–17 in Hollywood, CA, at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian and The Hollywood Roosevelt.

For the 13th consecutive year, Audi brings its visionary support to AFI FEST as the exclusive presenting sponsor, enabling the festival to host the very best of world cinema in Hollywood. Audi will bring back the popular Audi SkyLounge, located at The Hollywood Roosevelt.

This year, AFI FEST, Luce Cinecittà, ITA, the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles and IIC partner to celebrate “Cinema Italian Style,” and will present the World Cinema Masters in Conversation event with Gianfranco Rosi, director of Italy’s official Academy Award® entry for Best Foreign Language Film FIRE AT SEA, on Thursday, November 14, at the Egyptian.  As part of the inaugural World Cinema Masters in Conversation section at AFI FEST, renowned documentarian Rosi will sit down with Alberto Barbera, Director of the Venice Film Festival, for an in-depth conversation about one of the year’s most lauded documentaries. 

The partners join in a curated selection of Italian films playing at the festival including the World Premiere screening of the 4k restoration of IL SORPASSO (DIR Dino Risi) in the Cinema’s Legacy section. Restoration work was supported by Luce Cinecittà, Cineteca di Bologna, Surf Film and Janus Films, the U.S. rights-holder. Additionally, FRANCA: CHAOS AND CREATION, an incisive documentary by director Francesco Carrozzini, creates an intimate portrait of his mother, Franca Sozzani, the legendary editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue.
