DAY ELEVEN November 13, 2005

AFI FEST DAILY WRAP

compiled by Brent Simon

AFI FEST 2005 presented by Audi heads into its final day in anticipation of its Closing Night Gala Presentation of CASANOVA, sponsored by Los Angeles Magazine... Saturday's "Times Talks" panel discussions cast a spotlight on war and its place in cinema, with the series' 4:30 p.m. conversation between actor George Clooney and editor at large for The New York Times Magazine Lynn Hirschberg selling out ArcLight Theare 10 and provoking a great audience response... Following the World Premiere screening of THEGOODTIMESKID, director Azazel Jacobs and actors Sara Diaz and Gerardo Naranjo fielded questions about the collaboration, an offbeat comedy about two men with the same name whose paths cross, and the woman that gets mixed up in all the shenanigans... Tom Arnold, Richard Edson, director Penelope Spheeris and others showed up for the World Premiere of THE KID AND I, which Arnold scripted after meeting his neighbor, Eric Gores, who suffers from a mild case of cerebral palsy... Gores also co-stars in the film, and attended the screening... Latin Cinema Series selection STORIES OF DISENCHANTMENT sold out its Saturday screening, but plays again today, November 13, at 4:30 p.m. in ArcLight Theatre 13... Director Neil Jordan brought BREAKFAST ON PLUTO to AFI FEST, and the general consensus was that star Cillian Murphy--who was also on hand--makes a convincing transvestite growing up in the turbulent Ireland of the 1960s and 70s... ABBA: THE MOVIE finished off the Aquafina Pure Vision Outdoor Screening: Music Docs at Midnight series, though the film was shown in the Cinema Lounge rather than outdoors due to technical complications.
