Welcome to the AFI DOCS 2016 volunteer registration page. Every year, more than 300 volunteers help make this festival Washington DC's premier documentary film event. Our volunteers assist in all areas of the festival — from working at the box office and ushering at screenings to providing key support in a number of areas including press relations, marketing and event production.
AFI DOCS relies on the generosity and dedication of our volunteers, and we welcome anyone who shares a commitment to supporting documentaries and providing excellent customer service.
When will volunteers need to be available?
AFI DOCS 2016 will run from Wednesday, June 22 through Sunday, June 26, 2016. Volunteers will be assigned to 6-8 hour shifts during the festival. There will also be opportunities to volunteer up to one month prior to the festival as well as a few days right after. Festival shifts will be available in Downtown DC's Penn Quarter and Silver Spring, MD
How will volunteers know what to do?
Volunteer orientation sessions will take place before the festival. During these sessions, you'll receive training and meet other volunteers and fellow documentary film enthusiasts.
What benefits will volunteers receive?
AFI DOCS volunteers receive vouchers that can be exchanged for tickets to screenings. Volunteers also receive an official AFI DOCS volunteer t-shirt! At the end of the festival, AFI DOCS celebrates our volunteers at a special party. The real benefits of being an AFI DOCS volunteer aren't the things you'll receive or even the access to film screenings. It's the people you'll meet and the experiences you'll have at the festival.
