Film Guide > Catalyst Screenings

Many documentary films highlight the complexity of social problems, but how might they be used to ignite social change and have genuine impact? Powerful films, truthfully told, can serve as catalysts for artists and political leaders to confront the most critical issues of our day. AFI DOCS offers a platform to extend the issues highlighted in the films into a live forum for discussion, debate and understanding.

AFI DOCS presents CATALYST SCREENINGS followed by national conversations with filmmakers, thought leaders, policy-makers and engaged audiences. These in-depth sessions, expanded beyond classic festival discussions, are unique to AFI DOCS.

The festival's location in Washington, DC, where important global and national issues are the daily business and where there is a critical mass of policymakers, interest groups, leading thinkers and engaged citizens, allows the festival to screen films that matter to an audience that can make a difference.
