1. DAY FOUR RECAP: SUNDAY, BEAUTIFUL, SUNDAY

Celebration and film passion marked Sunday's events and screenings at AFI FEST 2002, as film lovers proved that the weekend's good times do not have to end on Saturday night.

The revelry kicked off early, at a soiree for PROM NIGHT IN KANSAS CITY, where sparkling tiaras glittered throughout the ArcLight. Director Hali Lee happily got another chance to relive the prom of her past - only this time without the taffeta and puffed sleeves.

Later, the Consulate General of Germany hosted a not-to-miss party at his home, a gorgeous, 1920s Spanish mansion of Great Gatsby-like proportions. Dressed in designer and formal attire worthy of Academy-Award night, the guests buzzed about the screening of Caroline Link's NOWHERE IN AFRICA, one of the most sought - after tickets of the Festival. Presiding over the festivities, Made in Germany producer Corina Danckwerts said, "It is great to party with both AFI and the Germans-and especially satisfying to watch the two groups blend."

Meanwhile, back at the ArcLight Hollywood, the Irish community lined up en masse to see Dierdre Lynch's moving documentary PHOTOS TO SEND. Prominent Irish and Irish-Americans in attendance included Fiona Hunt, Deputy Consul General of Ireland; David P. Shannon of the American Ireland Fund; Aideen McGinley, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure of Northern Ireland; and Shona McCarthy, board member of the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission. After a revealing Q &A session with Lynch, the crowd celebrated at a rousing party sponsored by the Consulate of Ireland. "The craic was mighty," said Lynch of the shamrock-tinged evening, offering both compliments and a lesson in Irish vernacular.

In addition to the Irish and German celebrations, AFI FEST offered an impressive lineup of films yesterday, starting with the Shorts 4 program at 1:00 p.m., and ending with a late-evening screening of the psychedelic SNAKESKIN, directed by Gillian Ashurst.. Among other standouts was the US Premiere of Billie Eltringham's THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG. Said Christopher Wojciechowski as he emerged from the theater, "This is one of the best films I've seen in the last 10 years!"

2. DAY FIVE: CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY AT AFI FEST 2002!

Below is just a sampling of the highlights in store for AFI FEST-goers today.

EVERY STEWARDESS GOES TO HEAVEN, November 11, 2:30 PM
International Feature Competition

Fighting for your attention Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., EVERY STEWARDESS GOES TO HEAVEN, part of the International Feature Competition, is a gem waiting to become a classic. If you don't see it during the Festival, you will have missed out on a great opportunity to see one of the most touching films of the year. Director Daniel Burman tells the tale of a widower and a pregnant flight attendant longing for a higher love in the friendly skies.

Director Daniel Burman will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

HOLD MY HEART, November 11, 7:00 p.m.
International Feature Competition

With uncommon candor and openness, Trygve Allister Diesen's raw, sublime second feature examines an unusual father/daughter relationship. At the center of the film is Harald, who decides to do the unthinkable - kidnap his own daughter. What follows is an often - moving journey down unexpected roads and exits, towards a destination as mysterious as Harald's own heart.

Director Trygve Allister Diesen will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

THE IPCRESS FILE, November 11, 7:00 PM
ALFIE, November 11, 9:00 PM

Michael Caine Retrospective, Skirball Cultural Center

Tonight marks the commencement of AFI FEST 2002's retrospective on Michael Caine, this year's Tribute recipient! From Monday, Nov. 11 through Wednesday, Nov. 13, AFI FEST will be screening restored prints of Caine's greatest performances at the beautiful Skirball Cultural Center, just off the 405 on LA's classy Westside. Tickets are $6, which includes entry to both films.

ANONYMOUSLY YOURS, November 11, 7:30 PM
International Documentary Competition

Some stories are waiting to be found, other stories demand to be told. Gayle Ferraro's ANONYMOUSLY YOURS is the latter. This documentary uncovers the little-known world of sex trafficking in Myanmar and the rest of Southeast Asia. A huge government - recognized business, the sex trade subjects women to unspeakable conditions. ANONYMOUSLY YOURS allows four of these women to share their experiences. Director Ferraro went to extreme measures - from smuggling tapes to hiding her true identity - to ensure that the stories of these maltreated women are told to the world on film. Director Gayle Ferraro will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

SOLITUDE, November 11, 9:30 PM
American Directions

The latest feature to come out of the grassroots filmmaking collective, Filmmaker's Alliance, SOLITUDE shines an unyielding light into the darkest corners of a relationship between two siblings, revealing the raw and unguarded desperation and dependence that have torn Hilary and Louis apart while binding them inexorably together.

Co-directors Susan Kraker and Pi Ware will participate in a Q&A following the screening.

DARK WATER, November 11, 10:00 PM
Asian New Classics

Looking for a good fright this evening? Be sure to catch DARK WATER, the latest offering from master of horror Hideo Nakata. The acclaimed originator of the infamous RINGU (THE RING) trilogy takes a mother's fear of separation from her daughter and heightens it with suspenseful storytelling, an ominous score and gallons upon gallons of water. You'll never look at your bathtub the same way again. Please bring a friend - you'll need someone to grab onto!

As always, please don't take our word for it. Visit www.AFI.com and make your own informed choice.
